Latest Windows 10 update breaks multi-monitor setups for gaming and 3d applications

Microsoft’s latest update for Windows 10 (KB3213986) contains the usual fixes and improvements everyone would expect. Some notable changes include better streaming for the Groove music application as well as better reliability for Remote Desktop. A negative side-effect of this update has surfaced however as noted in the “Known issues” section of the patch notes:

“Users may experience delayed or clipped screens while running 3D rendering apps (such as games) on systems with more than one monitor.”

That’s right. If you happen to use a multi-screen setup and and play the occasional 3d game you may have just been bitten by the Microsoft bug. Fortunately, there are currently not too many reports about users experiencing this issue. Microsoft has issued a couple of work-arounds however they aren’t exactly the most pleasant and include running the application in windowed mode (if the application actually supports that), or starting the application with only one monitor connected (do-able but still rather inconvenient).

There’s currently no word if and when a fix will be issued however, due to the nature of the problem, it wouldn’t be surprising if a hotfix was available soon.
